A sustainable future begins at Home. Upgrading the energy efficiency of your home has many benefits including a warmer more comfortable home with the benefit of reduced energy costs. DCL Insulation will help you achieve these results through our experience and attention to detail.
Your external walls and Roof have the greatest exposure to our variable climate. By adequately Insulating these areas, you can achieve up to 30% reduction in heat loss from your home and in addition reducing your heating bills by up to 30%.
Insulating your home is one of the most important decisions you make in increasing your comfort levels and at the same time doing your bit to help climate change. Click on the different types to see how you can go about making that change.
External Wall Insulation
External wall insulation is whereby a system involving bonding and mechanically fixing Insulation Boards which are either Expanded polystyrene ( EPS ) or mineral wool to the external envelope of the building. A layer of basecoat material is coated over this with mesh reinforcing layer applied at this point. After this basecoat layer has fully cured.
Internal Wall Drylining
Insulated Plasterboard is fitted to the inner surfaces of the external walls of the building. Building structure is normally hollow block walls or Solid block or stone construction. Depending on the type of building, the fixing system will be either mechanically fixed or Dot and Dab. The gypsum plasterboard can then be skimmed coated to give a smooth coat finish ready for redecoration.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity wall Insulation involves the pumping of of a bead insulant into the cavity of the house using a specialist injection system. The bead is combined with a binding agent at time of pumping. Holes are drilled in a pre-determined pattern to suit layout of building from the outside. The bead is then injected in through the holes. When cavity is completely filled , the holes are made good to match the colour of existing render.
SEAI Better Energy Homes Scheme: This is available to homeowners including Landlords whose homes were built and occupied before 2006. Grant Approval must be in place before work commences. Grant works must be completed to Seai standards by a registered Seai contractor. All Paperwork including BER must be submitted within 8 months from date of grant offer.
A building energy rating (BER) Certificate is an indication of your homes overall energy performance. This is rated on an A to G scale with A being the most efficient and G being the least efficient home.
Deep Retrofit is another term for extensive home energy upgrades.
The benefits are:
• Improved BER Rating
• A warmer more comfortable home
• Added resale value to the property
• Reduced heating bills.
• Improved health and wellbeing.
• Reduction in your co2 emissions.
This work involves undertaking a number of energy upgrades to the property together. Window and door replacement, External wall insulation, attic insulation, floor insulation, airtightness membranes and mechanical heat recovery or Demand control ventilation measures. Renewable energy sources such as Heat pumps and Solar PV along with LED lighting can be some of the upgrades undertaken under these works. The aim of the works is to achieve a BER rating of A -.

I have worked with Drumcilla Construction over the past 5 years or so on several mid-size complete refurbishment and extension projects around south County Dublin as well as a new 250 sq m contemporary house in Blackrock. From the first project I have been impressed with their professionalism, attention to detail, knowledge of all trades including new technologies and careful pricing. Through their friendly disposition Peter and Noel with their own team and subcontractors gel well together to produce a high standard of work. They are on my preferred contractors list ever since we first met.
